I have Celiac Disease

April 14, 2008

I have Celiac Disease, though the diagnoses isn’t as cut-and-dry as I would have liked. I didn’t show classic signs of the disease in any of my test. My blood test didn’t have the antibodies seen in classic Celiac Disease, though not everyone with Celiac Disease has those antibodies. I don’t have the malabsorption seen in classic Celiac Disease, though not everyone with Celiac Disease has malabsorption. My Intestinal biopsy was negative, though my gastroenterologist said that could be because the disease hasn’t advanced to the point of visible damage. What the test did show is that I have inflammation in my Small Intestine and I have a bad Vitamin D deficiency. Couple that with the fact that I have all the symptoms of Celiac Disease, that I have Peripheral neuropathy with no known cause and I have Dermatitis Herpetiformis (a skin rash that is basically Celiac Disease of the skin), my doctor feels that I do have the disease. He has told me to go on a gluten-free diet and I am to take Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, Zinc and Calcium daily.

I want to thank all of you who have shown concern in my health issues. Thank you for your kind words, for your best wishes and for your prayers! They mean more to me then I can ever convey in written form.

GOD Bless you all!

With Love, Jen

Hiya Jen! I’m happy to hear that you have finally gotten the results of all your tests although I know it isn’t as clear-cut as you may have liked. I hope that with following the doctor’s advice and taking good care of yourself you will be feeling well again soon. I will continue to keep you in my thoughts and prayers and send best wishes to you to help you on your road to healing. Blessings to you my friend xx Janet

    Hey Jen,

My step mom, step sister and Aunt all have Celiac, so I understand how hard it is. My Dad and my step mom both LOVE to cook and LOVE food all the ones she cannot eat. The whole family have adjusted our lives when it comes to food, if you need any good meal ideas you just let me know!

    God Bless,

    Jilly

Hey, the Nellie thing was out of a book I read as a kid, nothing too bad but nellie also means something else over here (blush!). I’m sorry to hear about your celiac issues, they tested my father for it earlier this year but it turned out to be motor nuron and he passed away on 29th January bless him. From what I can gather it’s quite easily controlled through diet so best of British to you, take care xx
